Just around the corner from the Algarve situated in a nature reserve you will find the unspoilt village of Vilarinha, consisting of approximately 10 houses down a narrow cobbled street with no through traffic. The village house is set in a sheltered walled garden overlooking fields with rolling hills and rivers being an ideal spot for nature lovers, walkers, artists, bird-watchers and writers who are looking for quietness, seclusion, character and friendly relaxed people.
An ideal holiday for anybody who wants to avoid the roads and be able to drive or walk tracks to find and explore new inland villages with a wonderful variety of local restaurants specialising in fresh fish, Portuguese specialities and jugs of local wine as well as the more exclusive restaurants with comprehensive wine lists.
Beautiful horses for the more experienced rider are available at the well known riding establishment of Henrique and Debra Ferra being 1.5 km away and for the less experienced and children there are donkeys at Monte Vehlo 2km, and golf within 20 km
Drive or ride 4 - 6 kilometres to reach miles of white sand dunes and beach, where your children can fish in the sheltered lagoon and the more adventurous can surf or join the well known surfing school.
BEACHES NEAR OUR PORTUGAL PROPERTIES
Castelejo Beach which is on the west coast near Vila do Bispo, has large black stones and is a very dramatic, attractive black stoned beach. It has a good restaurant; however, it is not always open.
Cordama Beach also on the west coast between Vila do Bispo and Carrapateira is a large sandy beach which has volleyball and usually a lifeguard. This has a yellow, wooden restaurant with beach umbrellas, serves good food, but again isn't always open.
Barriga Beach this is a large sheltered, light sandy beach but with no restaurant.
Mouranitos Beach
Mirouco Beach again on the west coast between Vila do Bispo and Carrapateira, for this beach you really need a four-wheel drive vehicle and to be quite fit for a very steep walk down. However, it is a beautiful romantic beach and very private.
Murracao Beach to get to the beach again you really need a four-wheel drive vehicle, it is a beautiful, very private, sandy beach.
Amado Beach this beach is easy to get to, a large sandy clean beach with plenty of room. It has two surf schools and is very busy during August. In the main summer months it has two snack bars, music and a great atmosphere. International surfing championships have been held here and you will see many surfers throughout the year.
Bordeira Beach this beach is also known as Carrapateira Beach; it has miles of sand dunes and has a lagoon which is ideal for children. It is a very large beach and also has a surf school, but with the sand dunes it is very easy to find a private area.
Aguia Beach
Martinhal Beach this beach is just before you get to Sagres from Vila do Bispo, here you can rent canoes and wind surfers, it is well known as a wind surfing beach. It has a wonderful restaurant which is normally open and is a beautiful white sandy beach overlooking an island. There is another beach very near to this which also has a restaurant but it is not quite as good. On the Algarve coast.
Zavial Beach this beach can be lovely but sometimes there is not much left of it, it can be long, white and sandy, but sometimes the sand seems to disappear. There is a nice restaurant made of stone on the beach, which in season is always open and out of season occasionally open. On the Algarve coast.
Ingrina Beach is a very small, not very exciting beach, not very private beach. It has a small café bar on it which is normally open. On the Algarve coast.
Figueira Beach is a beautiful sheltered beach on the Algarve side; however you do need to walk the last distance which will take about five minutes. On the Algarve coast.
Beach to the right of Figueira this beach you can normally drive to, apart from when there has been heavy rains when it is better in a four-wheel drive car. You can park at the beach; it has caves and sometimes has a lagoon. On the Algarve coast.
Salema Beach is a fishing village beach; it has a restaurant on the beach and is quite an attractive fishing village. On the Algarve coast.
Boca do Rio Beach does not have a restaurant, can be white and sandy but sometimes the sand is washed away and it is just pebbles. I have never found this to be a very private or exciting beach. On the Algarve coast.
Almadena Beach the last time I visited this beach it was nice and sandy, however it is a very changeable beach. On the Algarve coast.
Burgau Beach is a very attractive fishing village and the beach, the last time I went there, was beautifully sandy. Again, depending on the times, sometimes the beach does disappear. On the Algarve coast.
Amoreira Beach this again is a beautiful beach with sand dunes and a wonderful lagoon, this beach seems to always stay clean due to the tides and currents. Here there are very strong currents and swimming can be dangerous apart from in the lagoon. There is a restaurant which is open all year round. On the west coast, past Aljezur.
Vale Figueira this beach is on the west coast between Aljezur and Carrapateira, it is quite hard to find. It is a long, sandy beach with dramatic black rock formation. You can find good shell-fish at certain times of the year and it can be very private.
